Nel giro di pochissimo tempo Arturia rilascia il primo aggiornamento per iMini (versione 1.1). Scopriamo nel dettaglio di quali implementazioni possono godere i possessori del Mini Moog in versione app.
Dal changelog disponibile sul sito Arturia, e sulle pagine dell’App Store leggiamo le caratteristiche di quest’aggiornamento:
- Audiobus: collega iMini a GarageBand e altre DAWS.
- Background audio: iMini risponde al midi anche in background.
- Virtual midi: iMini risponde ad altre apps che inviano midi.
- Ignore midi devices: seleziona a quali devices midi non rispondere.
Alcune delle carenze della prima versione di iMini (1.0) che erano state evidenziate nella nostra precedente recensione, sono state prese in considerazione da Arturia, che ha reso l’app ancor più competitiva.
La scelta di aggiungere il supporto al protocollo Audiobus sicuramente consente di utilizzare iMini con un numero maggiore di app (tra le quali sicuramente spiccano GarageBand, Cubasis). Sulle pagine del sito Audiobus possiamo trovare l’elenco delle app compatibili con questo protocollo.
Con quest’aggiornamento è possibile di utilizzare l’app in Background, implementazione che inevitabilmente si ricollega all’ aggiunta del supporto Virtual Midi. Sfruttando quest’ultime due caratteristiche è possibile utilizzare un app che che supporti il midi out e inviare segnali midi verso iMini, in esecuzione in background. Quanto appena detto vale anche nel caso in cui si inviino messaggi midi da un computer (Ableton, Logic, Cubase etc..) verso più app in esecuzione su uno stesso iPad.
L’ultima implementazione, Ignore midi devices, permette di selezionare a quali dispositivi midi collegare iMini. In questo elenco compaiono sia le eventuali app (con supporto per il midi out) in esecuzione, sia le eventuali connessioni midi (wireless o usb) ad un computer o dispositivo hardware.
Con un prossimo aggiornamento sarebbe auspicabile poter gestire anche i canali midi dei messaggi inviati ad iMini. Nella versione 1.1 ancora non è possibile selezionare un canale midi specifico e tutto il traffico viaggia inevitabilmente sull’All Channel, non permettendo quindi un agevole collocamento di quest’app in un contesto di un sequencer che pilota molteplici synth (hardware, software o app che siano).

Some of the iMini (1.0) first version shortage that had been highlighted in our previous review, have been taken into consideration by Arturia, which made the app even more competitive.
The choice to add the Audiobus protocole support definitely allows the use iMini with a greater number of app (among which GarageBand, Cubasis). On the pages of the Audiobus website we can find the list of compatible apps with this protocol.
With this update you can use the app in the Background, implementation, which inevitably linked with the Virtual Midi support addition. By this two features you can use an app that supports midi out to send MIDI signals to iMini, running in the background. The same when you send midi messages from a computer (Ableton, Logic, Cubase, etc. ..) to multiple app running on the same iPad.
The latest implementation, Ignore midi devices, allows you to select which midi devices connect to iMini. In this list appear either any app (with support for the midi out) running, or any MIDI connections (wireless or USB) to a computer or hardware device.
In the next update would be appropriate to be able to handle the midi channel. In version 1.1 you still can not select a specific MIDI channel and all traffic traveling on All Channel, thus not allowing easy placement of this app in a context of a sequencer that controls multiple synths (hardware, software or app.)
