L’ultimo nato nella gloriosa famiglia dei sintetizzatori analogici è il SUB 37 Tribute Edition. Si tratta di un synth parafonico (2-note) in edizione limitata realizzato sulla base del motore di sintesi del pluripremiato Sub Phatty, ma pensato appositamente per incontrare le esigenze di tastieristi e sound designer che in questi anni hanno potuto fornire un valido feedback alla storica casa statunitense.
Di fatto è il primo sintetizzatore Moog realizzato negli ultimi 30 anni in grado di suonare più di una nota per volta. Il pannello del SUB 37 ha una ricchissima dotazione di 40 manopole, 74 switch ed un display LCD dedicato. Il Sub 37 presenta sul suo ricco pannello frontale una sezione dedicata all’arpeggiatore, due sezioni di modulazione, due oscillatori, un sub oscillatore, un filtro e due inviluppi ADSR. La caratteristica principale di questo Paraphonic Analog Synthesizer è proprio nell’utilizzo della “parafonia”, che consente di controllare note multiple con gli oscillatori che passano attraverso un percorso di filtri condiviso.
Il percorso di sintesi sonora di un synth parafonico permette di assegnare ad ogni coppia di tasti premuti rispettivamente gli oscillatori 1 e 2. La priority key selezionata influenzerà l’assegnazione degli oscillatori, anche quando verrà cambiata la coppia di tasti o quando si passa alla pressione di un singolo tasto. Il suono sarà poi processato dall’unico FILTER e dall’unico AMP presenti. Questo tipo di percorso di sintesi sonora costringe chi suona un synth parafonico a rapportarsi diversamente alle sequenze armoniche e dover quindi utilizzare uno stile di esecuzione differente. Si tratta di un approccio differente da quello tradizionalmente usato su un synth polifonico, così come è differente l’approccio che si utilizza quando si suona un synth monofonico sfruttando il glide per ottenere sonorità nelle quali si ha l’impressione di ascoltare più di una singola voce.
Inoltre il Sub 37 Tribute include un editor standalone / plug-in gratuito che è compatibile con tutti i principali formati di plugin.

The Sub 37 Tribute Edition is a limited edition (2-note) paraphonic analog synthesizer built on the award winning Sub Phatty sound engine. Its panel features 40 knobs, 74 switches, and has a dedicated LCD display – placing each critical sound creation element and live performance tool quickly at your command.
The Sub 37 Tribute’s new features include Duo Mode, which allows oscillator 1 and oscillator 2 to be played independantly, programmable arpeggiator/step sequencer, two modulation busses with assignable source and destination options, access to 256 presets, and a 37-note velocity sensitive keyboard with aftertouch.
A fully featured mixer section contains dedicated controls and mutes for each sound source, as well as a level control for External audio input and Feedback – which feeds the output of the filter directly back to the input of the mixer.
The sound synthesis of a parafhanic synth allows you to assign to each pair of pressed keys respectively the oscillators 1 and 2. The selected priority key will affect the oscillators allocation, also when the pair of keys will be changed or when a single button will be pressed. Then the sound will be processed by the single FILTER and the single AMP. This type of sound synthesis forces who plays a paraphonic synthesizer to differently approach to the harmonic sequences and then use a different playing style. It is a different approach from the traditional one used on a polyphonic synth , as well as different is the approach used when you play a monophonic synth using the glide to pretend of listening to more than a single voice.
Also included are the powerful DAHDSR envelopes from the Sub Phatty with panel control of each extended function. And, like the Sub Phatty, the Sub 37 Tribute includes a free standalone/plugin editor that is compatible with all major plugin formats – creating seamless integration between analog synth and DAW for total control, recall, and automation of every parameter.
