Grazie alla collaborazione con RPM Edizioni, siamo in grado di potervi offrire una serie di video tutorial che non hanno nulla da invidiare ai prodotti didattici internazionali.
La storia
I tutorial video sono uno dei settori didattici dell’audio moderno più in espansione. Ciò è facile capirlo, in quanto l’approccio guidato su video riesce ad essere chiarificatore di un argomento più di mille parole. Di conseguenza non solo le nuove generazioni di fonici ma anche una pletora di appassionati riescono a trovare in questi media le giuste informazioni mancanti alla loro cultura.
È inutile nascondere che la maggior parte di questi video fa riferimento alle DAW e quanti software sono ormai patrimonio incontrastato di quanti pensano che un solo PC ben carrozzato riesca ad offrire tutto il necessario per una produzione in grande stile. Ben poco, sempre in termini di tutorial, si riesce a trovare sull’hardware. Nemmeno l’onnipresente YouTube offre in modo sistematico argomentazioni organiche sull’uno o l’altro argomento in lingua italiana.
Ma non preoccupatevi. A partite da questo momento e per un discreto numero di video, ci pensiamo noi di AgeOfAudio a colmare parte di questa lacuna.
Ciò è possibile grazie alla collaborazione con RPM Edizioni che, per chi non lo sapesse o non ricordasse più, è stata la casa editrice pioniere nel settore delle tecnologie musicali grazie alla pubblicazione di due riviste storiche come MIDIDSONG e CM2 che hanno formato ed informato più di una generazione di attuali tecnici del settore. Le due riviste oggi non sono più presenti in edicola, ma prima che chiudessero i battenti di CM2 l’allora caporedattore Flavio Gargano ebbe il grande intuito di sviluppare un progetto editoriale del tutto nuovo che di fatto ha anticipato di qualche anno ciò che oggi tutti i media internazionali stanno cercando di proporre. Un Video Tutorial che consentisse a chi non avesse possibilità e risorse equivalenti di poter assimilare quanto avvenisse in uno studio di registrazione: non solo in termini di strumenti o hardware presenti ed usati in qualsiasi produzione “seria” di allora, ma anche valutando l’uso pratico di questi strumenti confrontati tra loro durante una sessione di registrazione o di missaggio. Il progetto “The Right Sound” venne sviluppato dal 2005 al 2007, anno di chiusura della rivista.
Si! Ma oggi?
Oggi come allora le metodologie non sono cambiate e anche lavorando semplicemente su una DAW con una semplice scheda audio, le fasi di produzione restano sommariamente le stesse, che si tratti di musica Pop, Dance o Rock. Per tale motivo, credendo fortemente nel valore di tali video, ne abbiamo fatto richiesta alla RPM Edizioni che ha acconsentito alla pubblicazione degli stessi. Per dovere di informazione, c’è da dire che dopo l’esperienza editoriale la RPM Edizioni è oggi attiva sotto il profilo di produttore di basi MIDI reperibili al sito www.midimarket.it. Per chi fa uso di basi MIDI nel proprio lavoro, ricordo che RPM Edizioni detiene la più ampia libreria in Italia di basi MIDI in standard GM, dato i programmatori che lavorano all’attuale produzione sono gli stessi che ne delinearono le linee guida, in termini di qualità e usabilità, all’inizio degli anni ’90.
Detto…, fatto!
Ritoccando gli stessi se non per adattarli alle esigenze del Web, ecco il primo di questi video pronto per essere fruito dai nostri lettori. Si parla della “Chitarra Acustica”, di come funziona, in quali modalità e con quali microfoni è possibile registrarla e quali possono essere i modi di equalizzarla una volta fissata sul nostro computer. Il tutto in stile moderno grazie alla presenza di un professionista della chitarra, Carlo Fimiani, che diede il via a “The Right Sound”.
Bene! Credo fortemente che troverete giuste argomentazioni per ampliare le vostre conoscenze dell’audio e delle tecnologie ad esse connesse: per cui, mettetevi comodi e buona visione.
Ah, dimenticavo…! Anche se le immagini risentono di alcune conversioni, state necessarie per i codec usati nella produzione iniziale, si è cercato per la parte audio di essere quanto più ligi alla qualità di ripresa utilizzata durante la produzione: pertanto ho cercato di rispettare i 16bit ed i 48 KHz di campionamento richiesto dal formato video e, nel caso di una necessaria compressione, di non scendere mai al di sotto dei 256 kbps. Consiglio di usare monitor o cuffie adeguate per un corretto ascolto.

The Right Sound – Part 1

The story
The video tutorial is one of the fastest growing sector in the modern age of audio. It’s easy to understand, since the first approach to an argument, conveyed through video images, can be more clarifying than a thousand words. Therefore not only the newest generations of sound engineers but also a vast number of devotees can find, through these media, the right informations which their knowledge is lacking of.
It’s undeniable that the most part of these videos are about DAWs and how many softwares are undisputed domain of the ones who think that just a powerful PC is able to offer everything a great production needs. We can find very little, still in terms of tutorial, about hardware. Neither the omnipresent Youtube offers, on a regular basis, organic explanations about one or the other subjects in Italian language.
But don’t worry. Starting from now and for a respectable number of videos, we at AgeOfAudio will take care of plugging part of this gap.
This is possible thanks to the collaboration with RPM Edizioni that, for the ones who don’t know or remember anymore, has been the pioneer publishing house within the musical technologies sector with the release of two historical magazines as MIDIDSONG and CM2 which have educated and trained more than one generation of experts in the field. These two magazines are not on sale anymore, but before CM2 closed shop, the managing editor at the time Flavio Gargano had the good intuition about developing an all new editorial project which in fact anticipated a few years what today all the international media are trying to offer. A tutorial video which would allow the ones who had got no chances and equivalent resources to absorb what would happen in a recording studio: not only in terms of instruments or hardware used in any “serious” productions at that time, but also evaluating the practical use of these instruments compared one another during a recording or a mixing session. The “the right sound” project had been developed between the year 2005 and the year 2007, when the magazine closed.
Yes! But what about it, nowadays?
Now, as then, methodologies haven’t changed and even simply working on a DAW with a simple sound card, the production phases rather stay the same, be it Pop, Dance or Rock music. For this reason, since we strongly believe in the value of these videos, we have been requesting them to the RPM Edizioni which allowed us their publication. As obligation to inform, it must be said that after the editorial experience, the RPM Edizioni is today on the market as a producer of Midi files you can find at www.midimarket.it. For those who use Midi files for their job, I’d like to say that RPM Edizioni possesses the widest Italian library for standard GM MIDI files, since the programmers who are working at actual production are the same who gave a general outline to it, in terms of quality and usability, at the beginning of the 90’s.
No sooner said ..than done!
After a little touch up, just to adapt them to the Web conditions, here is the first video, ready for our followers to enjoy. It talks about the “Acoustic Guitar”, about how it works and which kind of microphones it is possible to be recorded with and in what ways to equalize it once it is attached to our computer. All in modern style with the presence of a guitar pro, Carlo Fimiani, who started the “The Right Sound”.
Well! I strongly believe that you will find proper explanations to expand your knowledge about audio and surrounding technologies: make yourself comfortable and enjoy the video.
Ah, one last thing..! Even though images may result affected by some format conversion needed for the codecs used during the first production, in terms of audio we’ve been trying to stay faithful to the 16bit/48Khz required by the video format and not to drop it lower than 256 kbps, even where a further compression was needed.
