As promised here is the second part of the test we carried out on the tonal differences between sE electronics Gemini II and the Neumann U87.

We asked ourselves: “and with a female voice what results will we have?”. As previously mentioned, one of the aspects that we are interested in analyzing more is the frequency response on the highs; tube mics generally fail on this aspect but the sE Electronics introduced on the Gemini: a second valve that should remedy this deficiency. For this second test we made use of the extraordinary and warm voice of Wendy lewis, asking her to give us a few minutes during the recording sessions of her new work to test these two best-selling microphones.

The preamp phase is entrusted to two API 512c as for the first test. Generally we never give judgments on merit, this time we do it to bring to attention the experience of the musicians involved in the session. In their opinion the Neuman U87 it is a winner on songs that have a more Pop characteristic, while the GEMINI has a timbre that works perfectly with Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Jazz. In this specific case, Wendy Lewis's voice is well suited to both types of microphone. Based on the artistic choices it could be decided to use the Neumann to better preserve the tonal characteristics of the singer, or the Gemini to obtain a more colorful sound by strengthening it even on the lower frequencies.
