It is not a play on words! The news from Behringer to produce a low-cost theremin / Behremin that promises a hardware equipment normally available on much more expensive devices arrives rather unexpectedly.
dollars 99 is the announced price target and is a suitable price for making large sales numbers among amateurs and professionals of the instrument. I do not think it is a coincidence that the rumors arrived on social networks shortly after the announcement of the release of the Claravox from Moog, expected in Italy in early December 2020.
The tool is, at least on paper, very respectable. In reality we still know too little about it, but the announcements of behringer on social media "forced" us to say something about.
The tone on Behringer's official pages is always the same "would you like if we made a theremin for $ 99?", "Can you give us advices on how to improve it?", In short, it seems like a market test to see if there is enough interest.

The product seems to be oriented more to the world of advanced controllers than to that of the traditional theremin. The volume antenna has the classic shape of Moog, the pitch one has a retractable system with the possibility of disappearing into the case when not needed.
The interesting thing is a series of controllers that go far beyond those of the theremins we know, delay, cut off, reso, feedback, quantify, a key hold, saw and square oscillator, it's fun!
These are functions that we also found in a bit more digital form on the theremini but here they are better accessible and honestly with an analog touch.

If we go to the back we find the CV outputs - which we find on Etherwave plus and pro- a fairly new MIDI port (on the theremini you use midi via usb but here we have the classic XNUMX pin) and a usb for something that we will soon discover.
As a thereminist I have to say that Behringer struck my curiosity, the theremin looks great and the price is right!
