Cinematic Pads is part of the series Originals and as the name suggests it's a collection of epic sounding Pads, a kind of preset you're always on the lookout for.
Spitfire Audio he put together 45 sounds of pads processing symphonic orchestral samples which were then transformed and warped for truly rich sounds.
All samples come from the library Albion Legacy and owners of the Albion Legacy (now no longer for sale) will automatically receive a free copy of Originals Cinematic Pads.
There are 23 preset organized in a drop-down menu and each of these presets contains three variants classified according to a soft tone, a brighter and a cinematic.
The combination of these three sounds has been carefully crafted to achieve a great balance and create really lively, interesting and full textures.
Preset
I list the available presets with a brief "cinematic" description:
- Glacial Marimbium, an ice marimba played with a bow
- Frosty Exhale, a condensing breath like when you breathe out at night in winter.
- Chatter Organ a distant church organ with ghostly fragments
- Midnight Waves, an ocean spray during a sea storm
- Deep Churn, distant fog horns pulsing and spinning
- Woodland Wind, a light breeze through an ancient forest
- Roadside Crosstalk, like digital interference as a car passes by
- Slow Reeds, a wood ensemble frozen in time
- Bowed Glass, a glass orchestra playing in a cathedral
- Nauseous Static, an untuned radio in a nightmare
- Falling Steam, pipes that burst as a factory collapses around you
- Euphoric Sandstorm, a desert of glitter during a storm
- Pulsing Water, a stuttering stream that begins to freeze
- Fluorescent Corridors, a flickering light left on all night
- Halcyon Strings, reminder of the summer
- Volcanic Beaches, waves that gently lap the Icelandic black coast
- Windswept Vessel, shipwreck off a desert island
- Trembling Tension, harp left out under a hailstorm
- Cavernous Bellowing, underground string ensemble
- Mountaintop Wind, surf on the clouds!
- Chilling Forest, night walk among trees in the moonlight
- Dystopian Ruin, an abandoned city on a rainy night
- Celestial Stops, a distant pipe organ floating in space
Signals
In the “Signals” section you will find 3 sliders, they are used to create the mix of the 3 pad sounds that make up each preset.
Mellow - controls a soft pad created from orchestral samples, perfect for creating rich background sounds.
Bright - control an ethereal pad, carefully chosen to match the pad mellow.
Cinematic - controls a “distant” sounding pad created using hardware reverbs, perfect for creating atmospheric and ambient sound worlds.
When a preset is loaded, it already has a pre-established mix of the three that you can obviously modify as you wish. Compared to other libraries the dynamics fader controls a low pass filter.
Playing with the dynamic fader powerful sounds can be created to highlight certain scenes and add a lot of tension, also because the initial sounds were derived from orchestral samples, which blend very well with other libraries, especially orchestral ones.
The effects section offers the possibility to add reverb and distortions, it is also possible to modify the attack and release of the sound.
Each parameter is assignable to a midi control, so that it can be adjusted from a external midi controller or in the track of your DAW.
Conclusions
With this library you can not only write ambient music and electronics but also creating tension and growing. If you know how to write for orchestra you can certainly enrich the sound to give it a boost and make it more “wide” and cinematic.
