Thanks to the collaboration with RPM Edizioni, we are able to offer you a series of video tutorials that have nothing to envy to international educational products.
History
Video tutorials are one of the fastest growing educational fields in modern audio. This is easy to understand, as the guided approach on video manages to clarify a topic more than a thousand words. Consequently, not only the new generations of sound engineers but also a plethora of enthusiasts are able to find the right information missing from their culture in these media.
It is useless to hide that most of these videos refer to DAWs and how many software are now the undisputed heritage of those who think that a single well-bodied PC can offer everything necessary for a production in style. Very little, always in terms of tutorials, can be found on the hardware. Not even the ubiquitous YouTube systematically offers organic arguments on one or the other topic in Italian.
But don't worry. Starting from this moment and for a fair number of videos, AgeOfAudio will take care of filling part of this gap.
This is possible thanks to the collaboration with RPM Edizioni which, for those who do not know or no longer remember, was the pioneer publishing house in the music technology sector thanks to the publication of two historical magazines such as MIDIDSONG and CM2 which have formed and informed more than a generation of current industry technicians. The two magazines are no longer present on newsstands today, but before they closed the doors of CM2 the then editor-in-chief Flavio Gargano had the great intuition to develop a completely new editorial project that actually anticipated by a few years what all the international media are trying to propose today. A Video Tutorial that would allow those who did not have the possibility and equivalent resources to be able to assimilate what happened in a recording studio: not only in terms of instruments or hardware present and used in any "serious" production of the time, but also by evaluating the use I am familiar with these instruments compared to each other during a recording or mixing session. The project "The Right Sound”Was developed from 2005 to 2007, when the magazine was closed.
Yes! But today?
Today, as then, the methodologies have not changed and even by simply working on a DAW with a simple sound card, the production phases remain roughly the same, whether it is Pop, Dance or Rock music. For this reason, strongly believing in the value of these videos, we have requested them to RPM Edizioni which has consented to their publication. For the sake of information, it must be said that after the editorial experience RPM Edizioni is now active under the profile of producer of MIDI backing tracks available on the site www.midimarket.it. For those who use MIDI bases in their work, remember that RPM Editions has the largest library in Italy of MIDI bases in GM standard, given the programmers working on the current production are the same ones who outlined the guidelines, in terms of quality and usability, at the beginning of the 90s.
No sooner said than done!
Retouching the same if not to adapt them to the needs of the Web, here is the first of these videos ready to be enjoyed by our readers. We talk about the "Acoustic Guitar", how it works, in what modalities and with which microphones it is possible to record it and what are the ways to equalize it once it is fixed on our computer. All in a modern style thanks to the presence of a guitar professional, Carlo Fimiani, who started “The Right Sound”.
Good! I strongly believe that you will find the right arguments to expand your knowledge of audio and related technologies: so, make yourself comfortable and enjoy.
Ah, I forgot…! Even if the images are affected by some conversions, which were necessary for the codecs used in the initial production, the audio part was tried to be as faithful as possible to the shooting quality used during the production: therefore I tried to respect the 16bit and of 48 KHz sampling required by the video format and, in the case of a necessary compression, never go below 256 kbps. I recommend using suitable monitors or headphones for proper listening.
Feedback on the subject remains welcome :-).
The Right Sound – Part 1
by Alfredo Capozzi
Thanks to the collaboration with RPM Edizioni, we are able to offer you a video tutorial series which is every bit as good as any worldwide educational products.
the story
The video tutorial is one of the fastest growing sector in the modern age of audio. It's easy to understand, since the first approach to an argument, conveyed through video images, can be more clarifying than a thousand words. Therefore not only the newest generations of sound engineers but also a vast number of devotees can find, through these media, the right information which their knowledge is lacking of.
It's undeniable that the most part of these videos are about DAWs and how many softwares are undisputed domain of the ones who think that just a powerful PC is able to offer everything a great production needs. We can find very little, still in terms of tutorial, about hardware. Neither the omnipresent Youtube offers, on a regular basis, organic explanations about one or the other subjects in Italian language.
But don't worry. Starting from now and for a respectable number of videos, we at AgeOfAudio will take care of plugging part of this gap.
This is possible thanks to the collaboration with RPM Edizioni that, for the ones who don't know or remember anymore, has been the pioneer publishing house within the musical technologies sector with the release of two historical magazines as MIDIDSONG and CM2 which have educated and trained more than one generation of experts in the field. These two magazines are not on sale anymore, but before CM2 closed shop, the managing editor at the time Flavio Gargano had the good intuition about developing an all new editorial project which in fact anticipated a few years what today all the international media are trying to offer. A video tutorial which would allow the ones who had got no chances and equivalent resources to absorb what would happen in a recording studio: not only in terms of instruments or hardware used in any “serious” productions at that time, but also evaluating the practical use of these instruments compared one another during a recording or a mixing session. The “the right sound” project had been developed between the year 2005 and the year 2007, when the magazine closed.
Yes! But what about it, nowadays?
Now, as then, methodologies haven't changed and even simply working on a DAW with a simple sound card, the production phases rather stay the same, be it Pop, Dance or Rock music. For this reason, since we strongly believe in the value of these videos, we have been requesting them to the RPM Edizioni which allowed us their publication. As obligation to inform, it must be said that after the editorial experience, the RPM Edizioni is today on the market as a producer of Midi files you can find at www.midimarket.it. For those who use Midi files for their job, I'd like to say that RPM Edizioni possesses the widest Italian library for standard GM MIDI files, since the programmers who are working at actual production are the same who gave a general outline to it, in terms of quality and usability, at the beginning of the 90's.
No sooner said ..than done!
After a little touch up, just to adapt them to the Web conditions, here is the first video, ready for our followers to enjoy. It talks about the “Acoustic Guitar”, about how it works and which kind of microphones it is possible to be recorded with and in what ways to equalize it once it is attached to our computer. All in modern style with the presence of a guitar pro, Carlo Fimiani, who started the “The Right Sound”.
Well! I strongly believe that you will find proper explanations to expand your knowledge about audio and surrounding technologies: make yourself comfortable and enjoy the video.
Ah, one last thing..! Even though images may result affected by some format conversion needed for the codecs used during the first production, in terms of audio we've been trying to stay faithful to the 16bit/48Khz required by the video format and not to drop it lower than 256 kbps, even where a further compression was needed.
Feedbacks about this subject are welcome 😉
