Only a few days have passed since the upgrade of Logic Pro X to version 10.4.2, which Celemony also offers its 4.2 version of Melodyne. Will they be numbers to be played on the lotto? 🙂
With the release of Logic, users of Mom Apple have seen an update that, as with every upgrade for 4 years now (after the release of version X in 2014), brings with it a whole series of features and improvements, to make it look more like a major release than an upgrade minor. These are the main new features:
⁃ Possibility of being able to rent the entire library of Logic (over 70GB of sounds, loops, fx, ...) on an external HD or, in any case, different from the system one;
⁃ The function SMART TIME now he works as much on multi-track recordings, maintaining project consistency, as on MIDI ones. This happens both during recording and by importing the multiple separate tracks, therefore with bidirectional adaptation to and from the Project;
⁃ the Synth Alchemy accepts drag'n'drop of audio files, showing areas for resynthesis on the display for each of the 4 Layers, rather than granular analysis or simple import of the audio sample;

⁃ Send on Fader e Independent Pan: two options so dear to the engineers that allow a very rapid management of the auxiliary sends and the correlated pan-pot;
⁃ Score: Phrasing slurs acquire the dynamism of allocation on the selected notes. This brings Logic's score editor very close to specialized notation software;
⁃ Ability to add photo o screenshot to the Project or Track notes, with all the benefits for those with short memories or who work on multiple productions;

Let's move on to Melodyne
Since MusikMesse There were rumors of greater integration of Celemony's flagship software within Logic, and there was a great deal of curiosity to have it available. Not later than 24 hours ago, Celemony released the version Studio 4.2 which integrates the engine ARA (Aaudio Random Access), already known by users of Studio One of Presonus e FishFinder of the reborn Cakewalk.
In practice, with this ARA version there is no longer any need for the DAW to send the audio track to Melodyne via the “Transfer” function.
By adding the plug.in, provided it is the first of the Channel Inserts, and opening it on the screen, just put in play Logic, to see the entire audio track appear on the Melodyne screen. The further step forward is that the ARA engine runs in monitoring also on Comping, as on eventual temporal shifts of the audio region. A must for all audio producers, users of Logic.
A small flaw, if we want to consider it: Melodyne does not work with Apple Loops and with the “Flexati” files. Simply because both files contain metadata that are inserted into the tags of the file at each modification. To remedy this, just render or play the file in PCM format (AIFF, Wave), for Melodyne to see it as native audio.

There is only one question that the user "Flex”Arises: why use Melodyne if Flex Time and Flex Pitch do +/- the same thing?
To answer you, in case you are not a Melodyne user, I suggest you download the Trial and use it… then you will decide for yourself!
Good music!
