Which owner of a Clavia Nord Lead / Rack 2X has never wished to modify its countless sound synthesis parameters using a computer graphic editor? This type of functionality, the well-known Swedish company, has always and only offered it to owners of Nord Wave and Nord Electro 3, through the Nord Sample Editor. We lovers of the Lead series have always suffered from the lack of a graphic editor. Sifting through the network it seems that someone has found an interesting solution.

Developer Piet Kaempfer, aka Protonic, user of the growing family of Max for Live, has created a plugin called Nord Lead 2X Remote (version 1.3) which allows you to control, modify, and manage the entire sound synthesis engine of the notorious Swedish synth through a graphic interface to be loaded into ableton live.

Max for Live is a development environment, based on a technology called MAX 6, which offers the opportunity to create midi instruments, devices for sound analysis and effects.
Inside Ableton Live 8.3 the development platform of Max had already been introduced, renamed Max for Live. With the release 9 of Ableton Live, Max has been integrated into the program, thus offering native support.

Given therefore that we must have installed a version of Ableton on our computer (possibly from version 9 upwards), we just need to download the plugin developed by Protonica from the Max for Live website, and we could have fun modifying all the parameters of the Nord Lead / Rack 2X through a graphic interface that also offers a practical import / export, saving in patches for ableton, automations and modulations of all sound synthesis parameters.
For some features of this plugin, the developer points out that it is necessary to install the SysEx Bridge of which he provides the link in the installation guide published on the Max for Live website.

Delivering ...

  • Version 9 of Ableton live (with older versions you will need a Max for Live installation)
